Bert Behnke Workshop - Taking the Fear Out of Group Photography

Please note this is an in person only workshop and it will be held at Jester King Brewery in Austin.  Since this is a PPA Continuing Education Course you must attend in order to receive the merit.

Group Photography

While most of the photographic industry has gravitated towards headshots and mini-sessions, Bert has focused on groups of all kinds. His studio, located in the Chicago suburbs, is known for their family group photography as well as corporate and event groups. From a group of only two to his largest family group of 83, Bert can show you how to easily and efficiently get groups organized and photographed in a short time which keeps the clients happy. This is a working workshop so be prepared to ask questions and get your group posing hat on!

The day will start with a discussion on how he works with groups to not only organize, but communicate and sell while he is shooting. He will walk you through his easy to use "Eight Levels of Group Posing" and his use of chairs, stools, benches, and posing blocks to make things flow. He will talk lighting and posing for both fun, casual groups and traditional or corporate groups. 

There will be various models/groups used to demonstrate the techniques and styles. Attendees will be encouraged to get involved and get hands on while Bert mentors and assists you in getting it better. 

There will be a break at 5pm for pizza and refreshments at this great location provided as a part of your workshop fee. Then we will continue to work until sunset at 8:30pm and after. Bert and his crew will stick around afterwards for anybody who wants to continue the conversation, or enjoy a cold brew after a great day of learning!

About Bert

Bert Behnke, M.Photog.Hon.M.Photog.Cr.CPP, is a second generation photographer based out of the Chicago suburbs. Working alongside his wife Cindy and son Al, they cover a variety of types of portraiture from families to couples, women to maternity and events to headshots. His career has seen him recognized for both his photography and service to the photographic profession. Bert is a past president of PPA and an internationally recognized educator who has presented all over the USA  as well as Europe and Asia. He is a past recipient of the prestigious Portrait Photographer of the Year from the World Photographic Council, a branch of the United Nations. But his proudest accomplishment is establishing PPA Charities, which over its history award monies approaching the $2,000,000 mark in giving to those children and families in need, all raised through the photographic industry.
